Late comedy actor Vivek was a legend in Tamil cinema. While Vadivelu's works dominated Kollywood, Vivek had established a unique style and a fanbase for himself. Introduced in films by renowned director K. Balachander, He was also a social activist.
Vivek had won Padma Shri Award, Kalaivanar Award from the central and state governments respectively. Sathyabama University conferred Vivek with an honorary doctorate for his contribution to society through cinema. He passed away on 17 April 2021 due to cardiac arrest at the age of 59.
Yesterday, the stylish director Gautham Vasudev Menon penned a beautiful eulogy for him. GVM took to his Twitter page to reveal that he was supposed to do a direct digital release film with Vivek. But unfortunately, the project didn't happen as Vivek was busy with LOL Enga Siri Pappom.
Gautham wrote, I’d planned to make a film with Vivekh for a digital release & he’d said it will have to wait for his ott debut LOL-Enga Siri Paappom. That was our last conversation. Remembering that as I watch his debut on OTT & what a fun outing! Here’s to Chokku & Revolver Richard. TNLY Vivekh.
Gautham and Vivek shared a good rapport as they worked together in the romantic drama Minnale and the cop-action thriller Yennai Arindhaal. Also, Vivek's character 'Chokku' from Minnale is one of the best comedy roles in his career. Sources say that GVM wanted to do a detective thriller with Vivek after watching the actor's crime thriller Vellai Pookal.
