Even as the debate regarding MS Dhoni's retirement from International cricket ceases to subside, former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir has mentioned about his opinion on the matter.
Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni was last seen on field during India's semi-final exit from the 2019 World Cup, after which Dhoni has not played International cricket and refrained from answering questions regarding the same as well. With Dhoni's return to International cricket remaining uncertain, fans of the wicket keeper-batsman had been eagerly awaiting to watch their star player in action, but were left disappointed yet again due to the suspension of the 13th edition of IPL that was re-scheduled to begin on April 15. However, the BCCI just recently announced that IPL 2020 is all set to happen in the UAE in September and they are merely awaiting the government's approval at the moment.
Gautam Gambhir, in an interview with Star Sports on Cricket Connected reportedly mentioned that retirement is an individual decision and that Dhoni should continue playing if he is fit. Gambhir stated, "Age is just a number. I think if you are in very good form if you are hitting the ball really well. MS Dhoni, if he is hitting the ball really well, if he is very good form, if he is enjoying the game and if he thinks that he can still win the game for the country at that number – especially at six and seven."
The former batsman further added, "If he is great fitness and form, I think he should keep continuing playing because no one can actually force anyone to retire. A lot of experts can put a lot of pressure on people like MS Dhoni because of their age and stuff but again it's an individual decision, when you started playing cricket it was your individual decision. When you want to leave it is again your individual decision."
