Gautam Gambhir helps Pakistani girl to get treatment

A 7-year-old Pakistani child named Omaima Ali is now in a position to get treatment in India for her congenital heart disorder. This is thanks to the former cricketer and BJP MP Gautam Gambhir.

It was Gambhir's intervention that ensured that the girl got a visa to India. When he came to know about the patient's medical emergency, the BJP parliamentarian promptly wrote a letter to the Ministry of External Affairs. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar issued a direction to the Indian High Commissioner in Islamabad to do the needful to reach out to the girl and her parents.

It was a phone call to Gambhir's office from former Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Yousuf aka Yusuf Youhana that had set the process in motion.

"I am thankful that the EAM accepted the request and granted the visa. I am thankful to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister too. Hopefully, she can get treated well," Gambhir said.
