Gautam Gambhir reveals getting death threats; Security increased outside house

BJP MP and former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has approached the police alleging that he has received death threats from ISIS Kashmir. While security has been tightened outside Gambhir’s residence in New Delhi, an investigation of the matter is currently underway.

It has been reported that Gambhir received an e-mail on Tuesday night threatening to kill him and his family. In a letter to the DCP central district, Gambhir’s personal secretary Gaurav Arora wrote, “This is further to our telecommunication, we have received an email from ISIS Kashmir on the official email ID of Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday evening. The mail states death threat to MP and his family. I therefore request you to look into the matter and make adequate security arrangement.”

DCP Central Shweta Chauhan was quoted as saying, “Gautam Gambhir has submitted a written complaint about the death threat. He has received the threat on his official e-mail id. The security has been increased outside his residence. The police are currently inquiring into the source of the complaint.” The official, however, added that an FIR in the matter is yet to be registered as inquiry is still in progress. The inquiry is reportedly being carried out by the Special Cell along with the Cyber Cell of the police of the Central district.
