Philanthropist Bill Gates has made his largest donation yet since 2000 by pledging Microsoft Corp. shares that accounted for 5% of his wealth, roughly Rs. 411 crore, to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation on June 6.

Gates` donation is greater than the donations made by other philanthropists this year: almost five times that of Michael Dell`s and a third more than Warren Buffet`s. Since creating the Giving Pledge in 2010, Bill and Melinda Gates have managed to rope in billionaires to invest a majority of their wealth in philanthropic activities. Despite his gift, Gates has kept his crown as the richest man alive, but has narrowed the gap with Amazon.Inc founder Jeff Bezos.
