Dreaded gangster Vikas Dubey was on Friday morning killed by UP police in an encounter. The police said that they had to carry out the encounter because Dubey had tried to stage an escape from their custody.
The gangster was arrested a day earlier by the Kanpur police in Madhya Pradesh. The police were taking him from MP to Kanpur when, a few kilometers from the UP city, the vehicle in which he was being transported allegedly overturned on the highway. As per the police, Dubey used the opportunity to stage an escape after snatching a cop's gun. Left with no option, the criminal was shot dead.
Dubey's dead body was taken to a nearby hospital, where the doctors confirmed his death.
On July 3, Vikas Dubey had staged an ambush with his gang members and killed eight cops. Since then, the gangster was on the run.
The encounter has drawn criticism from all over. Commenting on the development, senior journalist Rahul Kanwal said, "State that believes in rule of law would have expedited Vikas Dubey trial and unravelled goon-neta nexus. By killing the gangster in an encounter the UP police has shown it cares two hoots for judicial process. Mafias kill in cold blood. Not police. What’s worse is this was predictable."
