The controversy over Ilayaraja refusing the National Award for the best background score for Thaarai Thappattai` is raging on and we caught up with the maestro`s brother and jury member Gangai Amaran and here is the juice of our exclusive conversation with him.

The straight talking Gangai Amaran said that as a huge fan of Ilayaraja he is disappointed and as a brother, he is distressed that Ilayaraja refused the National Award. He said that by doing so he has let down all Tamil people who would have been proud . He is of the opinion that his brother has taken pride to his head and if he had informed in advance the award could have gone to someone who deserves from the younger generation. Gangai Amaran also questioned Ilayaraja if he would only accept an Oscar Award and can he question the Academy Jury who have separate awards for songs and background music. He also did not spare his brother's 'Thaarai Thappattai' songs which he branded as not good.

For more heated opinion from Gangai Amaran check out the conversation in the following video.
