Very often Kannada filmdom is known for setting records. Here is one Kannada film 'Ganga Cauvery' that is shot at the mighty Himalaya region twice for the film and the hero of the film Akshay falls from 350 feet height stunning the audience at Kulu Manali is mind blowing. These are the two vital records set by 'Ganga Cauvery' - Rs.4 crores venture by first time producer R.V.Venkatappa. Shooting in Gangotri and surroundings in the Indian film history is only after Raj Kapoor's 'Ram Teri Ganga Maili' and 'Gangotri' Hindi films.
Coming to the contents of 'Ganga Cauvery' - even though there is simple story and somewhat gripping moments the film can boast of excellence in cinematography and music front. H.C.Venu has reached the heights from his cinematography and the visual treat is superb. This is a musical entertainer too. K.Kalyan has understood the two mighty rivers of this country importance and written the songs accordingly. The Theme song Vanagala Nadu Cauvery Himagala Naadu Ganga.., haunts the listeners very much. Director Vishnukanth should have been more gripping in the narration. The dialogues in the film are ordinary but cast selection is wonderful.
Arjun (Akshay) son of an affluent family in Coorg the hilly region of Karnataka is nature photographer in love with Cauvery (Mallika Kapoor). They are close relatives too. Cauvery has the ambition of reaching national level from her painting exhibition. She has won award at the state level. To make progressive attempts in life she is struck with idea to get the landscapes of Himalaya surroundings to paint. Arjun decides to leave to Himalayan region. On his way at the tough areas Arjun takes up the challenge of saving the modesty of a tribal girl.
In the tough fight with goons he had to use his muscles. In the bloody fight he falls from a huge height of 350 feet height and flows to a far of place. He is found in very pitiable condition by the beautiful Ganga (Mahi Vij). Ganga brings Arjun to her house and desi doctor her father gives the required medical attention. The tension has built up in Arjun and Cauvery family in Coorg because there is no trace of Arjun after a week. The police in the Himalayan region are alerted. On tracing Arjun the honest cop urge him to go back to his home town. In this stay in the house of Ganga the love has blossomed between Arjun and Ganga. Arjun leaves the region promising to return and back home his marriage proceedings are on. It is Cauvery who comes for the help of Arjun and she asks him to bring Ganga to support her assignment of national level painting competition. Ganga also reaches the place of Cauvery. How this triangular love is unfolded is the climax of the film.
Akshay is superb in stunts and dance. He looks good but has to get trained in acting and delivery of dialogues. The nature beauty increases with two lovely faces Mallika Kapoor and Mahi Vij. Both are very lively and great future ahead. Sharan is as usual in the comedy department. Ananthnag, Roopa Devi, Ramesh Bhat and Chitra Shenoy are apt.
Every scene of this film is very attractive in the camera of H.C.Venu. The standard set in by Venu in his camera is something at the national and international standards. He is sure to clinch some awards for his expertise.
Kalyan's lyrics, compositions and singers contribution is another beauty of this film. The Coorg region culture and Himalaya tribal area culture mixed with a Karnataka culture song, Nannavalu Ninnalli Ninnalli Nannnu...Sothe Sothe..sordid song, Ganga Cauvery title song are very good hear and see on screen.
This is a film that takes you to the birth place of two mighty rivers of this nation - Ganga and Cauvery. It will be a travelogue experience too. You can watch this film once.
