Three new films released over the weekend gone by - 'Gandhi To Hitler', 'Khap' & 'Bubble Gum'. Expectedly, all three have turned out to be unmitigated disasters at the box office with no real collections to boast of. Bare minimum publicity notwithstanding, even quality of at least two films (Gandhi To Hitler, Khap) was such that any amount of promotion whatsoever wouldn't have helped their cast.
In fact writing was pretty much clear on the wall for each of these films on the day of release itself as there were hardly any shows allocated to them. With merely a show or two each and that too at handful at theatres, it was obvious that distributors as well as exhibitors had no confidence in these films. Resultantly there were no takers for either of these films as they opened to near empty theatres.
The only film with some known names at the least, 'Gandhi To Hitler', saw maximum blows coming it's way as it was universally panned for making a mockery of historical events. 'Khap' too didn't fare any better because despite it's volatile subject (honour killings), the execution left a lot to be desired. 'Bubble Gum', the least known of them all with largely unknown faces ironically saw decent reviews coming its way but public awareness was so low that any revival whatsoever was futile.
All of this meant that even the combined collections of each of these three films won't reach one crore at the end of first week. Meanwhile the films that ended up gaining most due to zero competition were 'Singham' and 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara', both of which are superhits now.
