'Game Over' is first of its kind movie: Taapsee Pannu
- IndiaGlitz, [Monday,June 10 2019]
Taapsee Pannu awaits the release of the psychological thriller 'Game Over' on June 14. In this interview, the 'Manmarziyaa' actress talks about the film, its subject, what makes it special, doing films in three languages, her plans to become a producer and more.
This is your first Telugu film since 'Neevevaro'. How is it doing a Telugu film after a long time?
I have been doing films non-stop in Hindi but in Telugu, I have been doing less number of movies. In Tamil, the gap has been longer, as I didn't do a film after 'Kanchana-2'. Just when I was starting to think that I am growing distant from Kollywood, Ashwin Saravanan came up with 'Game Over'. I was impressed with the story. I happened to watch a few scenes from his movie 'Maya'. He is a substantial director; that's why I said OK to the project immediately. It was decided that the film should be made in Telugu and Tamil. We have dubbed it in Hindi. Anurag Kashyap decided to dub it in Hindi after watching the Tamil version. This is going to be a pan-Indian release.
The Trailer is intriguing. What is the premise of 'Game Over'?
This is the first-of-its-kind movie on the Indian screen. I don't think anyone has tried a subject of this variety before. This is what makes it a universal story, regardless of the barrier. It's a psychological thriller unfolding against the backdrop of the home invasion concept.
How different is 'Game Over' compared to the thrillers we see every often. For example, just in recent weeks, we have seen thrillers like 'Seven' and 'Killer' in Telugu and Tamil.
The story and the screenplay are totally different. They are the major highlights of 'Game Over'. Furthermore, my character is curious and exciting. The story and screenplay take precedence over everything else, though. This is a concept-driven flick.
What was the toughest scene for you?
I meet with an accident in the movie. How that happens is to be seen on the silver screen. It's because of that accident that my character is wheelchair-bound for most part of the movie. This is the first time that I have done a role like this one. I never had even a fracture in my life. But, to do this movie, I had to sit on the wheelchair for hours. I had to do it without moving my legs.
How long did the shooting take?
We had to work for 12 hours a day. The entire unit members worked really hard. I was wheelchair-bound for 25 days of the shoot. The total shoot period was 37 days.
How is it working in three languages?
I am lucky to be getting work in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil. The audiences in these languages have given me recognition. No poster before this film had my name. This is the first time that my name is mentioned on the poster. Taapsee in Game Over', it reads. I feel more responsible now.
Are you planning to become a producer?
I am indeed planning to turn a producer. I know that production is a risky game. That's why I am mooting partnerships. I am looking out for a partner. If and when I find a good story, I will debut as a producer.
What are your upcoming movies?
I have signed to do a film in Tamil. I have an offer in Telugu as well. Two films are ongoing in Hindi.
