One of the most controversial final seasons of a TV show just came to a conclusion. While some fans seem to be happy with the bitter-sweet finale, most of them have been left feeling unsatisfied after Game of Thrones’ 10-year long run, as the finale was not just disappointing, but also left a number of questions unanswered.

The 6th and final episode of the series, titled ‘The Iron Throne,’ started off with Tyrion Lannister walking through the desolate and demolished ruins of Kings Landing, which was destroyed by Daenerys’ dragon in the previous episode, killing every last man, woman, and child of the city, who were previously serving under their queen Cersei Lannister, who was also killed in the destruction, along with her brother/lover Jaime Lannister, much to the dismay of Tyrion and Jon Snow.

Tyrion Lannister was later imprisoned by Daenerys for the treason of freeing his brother Jaime, who was held captive by the queen. Jon Snow, who later met Tyrion, was warned by the latter of the consequences of letting an unstable and unfit woman like Dany rule the seven kingdoms. Jon, who unconditionally loved Dany, accepted the same with a heavy heart and chose to do the right thing by plunging a knife through the Daenerys Targaryen’s heart, killing her.

What follows the death of Daenerys makes for the second part of the finale, where Bran Stark was crowned the king of six kingdoms, after a speech from Tyrion, who was appointed as the hand of the king. Jon Snow departed to serve in the Night’s Watch once again, while Sansa Stark became queen in the North and Arya Stark left for the West.

Keeping the disappointing turn of events aside, especially since the build up over the R + L = J theory dates back to 1997, when George.R.R.Martin’s first book of his legendary series ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ was published, has been proven meaningless since Jon decided to join the Night’s Watch yet again, there are a number of unanswered questions and plot holes that have left the fans of the show feeling unsatisfied.

One of the major plot holes surrounds the prophecy associated with Cersei Lannister, where a young Cersei was told by Maggie the Frog that she would have three children who would die and she would eventually be strangled by “the valonqar” – Valyrian for little brother. While the former happened over the course of seasons 1 to 6, the audience never got to witness the death of Cersei the way the prophecy described.

It’s also amusing how Jon Snow decided to join the Night’s Watch when the Night King and his army are already defeated and the wildlings are on good terms with the Westerosi people. Hence, the watch practically serves no purpose now.

While the final season of Game of Thrones has certainly been a disappointment, the brilliance of the first few seasons must be acknowledged, along with the mind-blowing performances of Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey, who played Tyrion Lannister and Cersei Lannister respectively, throughout the show.
