Game Changer is one of the biggest releases this year and is out as Sankranthi's special film. Directed by Shankar, this film has Ram Charan and Kiara Advani as the female lead. Thaman scores the music and Sj Suryah plays the main villain.
Story:
Ram Nandan (Ram Charan), who transitioned from being an IPS officer to an IAS officer, is transferred to his hometown, Vizag. In Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister Bobbili Satyamurthy (Srikanth) faces challenges from his sons, Bobbili Mopidevi (SJ Suryah) and Ramachandra (Jayaram), both in terms of political rivalry and corruption within the government. Unexpectedly, the Chief Minister suffers from a severe health issue. At this point, both sons set their sights on the Chief Minister’s chair. However, CM Satyamurthy shocks everyone by declaring Ram Nandan as his successor and the next Chief Minister. Why did Satyamurthy choose Ram Nandan as the Chief Minister? how did Ram Nandan put a checkmate on Mopidevi’s aspirations for the CM post and save Andhra Pradesh from oppressive governance? That forms the story.
Analysis:
When it comes to the storyline of Game Changer, director Shankar has crafted a political satire targeting the chaotic governance in a few states. Shankar successfully targets corruption and delivers a cinematic critique of opposition leaders in Andhra Pradesh. The basic theme and interval bang are the major highlights and take you aback.
The story transitions through key elements like sand, iron mining, and marijuana smuggling in Andhra Pradesh, tackling the illegal businesses run by Mopidevi and Ramachandra Reddy. The film concludes with the collector bringing justice, while the first half intertwines a campus love story to balance the narrative.
Although the story appears routine at times, Shankar introduces a brilliant interval twist that builds strong hype for the second half. The journey of Appanna and Satyamurthy, along with Parvathi’s public struggles in the first half, provides a refreshing experience for the audience.
The second half shifts towards an emotional mother-son sentiment between Ram Nandan and Parvathi. The emotional scenes involving the mother's sentiment are well-executed and impactful. However, the election strategies towards the climax dilute the positive momentum built earlier.
When we set aside the story and narrative, the performances of the actors truly shine. As Ram Nandan and Appanna, Ram Charan delivers an outstanding dual performance, excelling as both a collector and a public leader. SJ Suryah as Mopidevi gives a power-packed performance, matching Ram Charan’s intensity. Anjali, as Parvathi, adds a much-needed emotional depth to the movie with her touching performance. Srikanth, Jayaram, and Samuthirakani do justice to their roles.
On the technical front, Thaman’s background score and songs, along with Thiru’s cinematography, stand out as highlights of the film. The songs are visually appealing, and the graphic work is commendable. The editing and production values maintained by Dil Raju are decent, adding to the overall quality.
