In a candid address to the media, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed his deep-seated concerns over the deafening silence from the Telugu film industry in response to the groundbreaking introduction of the Gaddar Awards. This new accolade, announced by the Congress government earlier this year, seeks to supplant the traditional Nandi Awards with a fresh approach to recognizing excellence in Telugu cinema, theatre, and television.
Revanth Reddy emphasized that the government's intention behind the Gaddar Awards was to foster a new era of recognition and celebration within the Telugu film industry. In preparation for its implementation, the Chief Minister and his administration had extended an open invitation to industry professionals-filmmakers, actors, and stakeholders—to contribute their insights and suggestions. This collaborative approach was designed to ensure the awards' relevance and impact.
However, the industry's conspicuous silence has left the Chief Minister feeling disheartened. Speaking at an event, Revanth Reddy lamented the absence of engagement from the film industry's leaders. "We introduced the Gaddar Awards as a testament to the achievements and contributions within the Telugu film industry, only to be met with a resounding absence of response. The lack of interaction is particularly disheartening," he commented.
The Gaddar Awards are aptly named after Gaddar, a revered revolutionary singer in Telangana, whose legacy is synonymous with the region's cultural and political awakening. Revanth Reddy expressed his hope that the awards would not only recognize contemporary talent but also honor the rich tapestry of Telugu cinematic history.
Reiterating his commitment to the Gaddar Awards, the Chief Minister called for the film industry's active participation. "I had envisioned a collaborative effort in which the industry would join hands to make the Gaddar Awards a true celebration of our cinematic heritage. Unfortunately, the industry's silence is baffling. Industry feedback is essential for the awards to resonate, and their lack of response is disquieting," he stated.
In closing, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy implored the Telugu film community to step forward and contribute to the Gaddar Awards' development. "We are ready to listen and incorporate your ideas. This is your industry; let us work together to ensure the Gaddar Awards represent the best of Telugu cinema," he concluded, extending an open invitation for dialogue and collaboration.
