Yatish Chandra is a 2011 batch IPS officer who is pretty famous for his no-nonsense, bold ways of dealing with issues and influential people. Known as a 'Dabangg' or 'Gabbar Singh' type cop, he is currently posted in Sabarimala, where an agitation is on to disallow women of a certain age group from entering the Ayyappa Swamy temple.
Recently, Pon Radhakrishnan, Minister of State in the Union Ministry of Finance, went to the Nilakkal base camp near the Sabarimala temple along with his contingent. The IPS officer immediately stopped the private vehicles from entering the camp where parking issues are being cited.
When the Minister questioned the cop why he is allowing government vehicles and not private ones, Yatish Chandra argued that the recent floods have made the territory prone to landslides. "I will let you into the camp only if you take up the responsibility for what happens if an accident takes place," Yatish told the Minister. He silenced the Minister's supporters boldly thereafter.
Recently, the Minister had arrested BJP general secretary K Surendran and another leader of a Hindu group.
There are allegations that he is acting tough against protestors and BJP members/leaders only to score brownie points with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
