The comradery between the new generation directors of Tamil Cinema who dare to think and make different films is well known. Now director Mysskin has taken this to a next level by writing a detailed letter showering praises on National award winning director Vetrimaran`s upcoming film Visaranai`.
Here are the excerpts from the letter written by Mysskin in which his true love for good cinema gushes out.
Dear Vetrimaran,
When I called to wish you over phone for film, Visaranai` being screened in the Venice International Film Festival you invited me to your office and showed a scene from that film. I was deeply shaken by the cunningness and truth engulfed in that scene. I returned to my office as a shocked man.
When my friends asked whether I watched Visaranai and how was it, I broke my silence and shared my thoughts about the film. They turned mute after that.
Then I asked you to show me the full film. You asked me to gather a few more directors. It was decided that the film will be screened the next day, in the editing room in your office. I started contacting other directors. Balaji Shakthivel asked whether we can celebrate the victory of Vetrimaran. I felt it was an apt suggestion and started making arrangements for a small felicitation in my office. I started inviting all the prominent filmmakers of Tamil cinema. I texted each of them asking whether we can celebrate Vetrimaran`s success. "Yes" was the answer that came from everyone.
In a joyous mood I spent the next day in making arrangements for the celebration. So I missed the screening of the film. All other directors watched the film. Some became silent, some praised and some cried…
Mani Ratnam was the first person to be present for the function followed by directors Bala, Shankar, Lingusamy, Ram, Samuthirakani, Mohan Raja, Balaji Shakthivel, K.V.Anand, S.P.Jananthan, Sasi, Manikandan, Ranjith, Subramania Siva, Rohini, S.S.Stanley, Cinematographer Ramalingam, Mahesh Muthuswamy, Sound designer Thapas Naik and your crew members gathered at the venue.
Rohini anchored the function. Mani Rahnam placed a crown of praise on Visaranai`. Samuthirakani who has acted in the film could not speak anything. Balaji Shakthivel who was running short of words to explain the experience the film gave to him resorted to stoic silence.Stanley said, "I wont speak anything (now). I will be the mike that takes this film to people". Subramania Siva spoke in awe of your boldness to have made such a film. "My film is nothing in front of Visaranai` ", Manikandan (Kakka Muttai`) said.
Then the feast started. We enjoyed the moment with happy talking like the hundreds of birds sitting on a banyan tree. Ilaiyaraja`s song was flowing and we got immersed in that. Balaji Shakthivel`s pranks made us roll on the floors laughing. Then we parted ways to reach home with a vacuum filled in mind.
The next day I watched Visaranai` in Four Frames. While the end credits were rolling I came running out of the theater, called my friends and said that the feeling I got after watching one scene of the film was wrong. This is a phenomenal film where the art and artist have travelled with hands together and reached a new evolution.
Vetrimaran…! My co-passenger, you have done it. You have touched the pinnacle of Art. You have created a film which will give fulfillment to your life. If Balu Mahendra had been alive today, he would have hugged you and given a peck on your forehead with immense happiness.
Visaranai` is a hard hitting genuine film. This film made me understand what Humanism is. People will cradle the film and their respect for you and your creations will increase.
Friend, your Visaranai` improves my film wisdom and my understanding about life.
Here I declare some words. "We film artists have been knocking the international arena for the past ten years. Now I am fixing a bomb in that door. Its name is Visaranai`. "
