September is turning out to be a month which would go down in the history books for some strange coincidence. Reason being that there are as many as three films releasing in quick succession where a leading lady is enacting the role of a Bollywood heroine.
These are 'Raaz 3' [Bipasha Basu], 'Heroine' [Kareena Kapoor] and 'Cover Story' [Sheena Nayar]. While 'Raaz 3' has already hit the screens, 'Heroine' arrives on 21st September and 'Cover Story' too is expected on 28th September.
"Call it uncanny but this is indeed true. In fact being a Bollywood heroine isn't incidental to the film's plot. It is actually quite integral to the plotline. Also, the journey of a heroine is similar too as the films depict the tale of their rise and fall ", comments an observer.
Its only the genre which sets these films apart. While Vikram Bhatts 'Raaz 3' is a horror affair, 'Heroine' is more of a drama. On the other hand 'Cover Story' is almost set like a play where one half of the film is dedicated to a two way conversation between Sheena and Jackie Shroff (who plays a journalist) in the same room.
While Kareena has always maintained that 'Heroine' is the most challenging role of her career in the recent times and also claimed that the film was destined to happen to her, her director Madhur Bhandarkar says, "The film will give an inside account of all that a popular heroine could go through while being in the industry.
I have been inspired by incidents from Hollywood as well as Hindi film industry."
This has been pretty much depicted in 'Raaz 3' as well where Bipasha played the role of an actress who hasn't lost it all but fears that she would eventually one day.
"To protect herself, she does anything in her power which is not just unimaginable but also takes massive proportions", says Bipasha whose character resorts to black magic in the film and only ends up meeting a deadly end.
Kareena too adds, "The film's promo has already set the tone that we would be narrating life of an actress and also what happens behind the scenes. Of course the film industry has its glamour and all but as an outsider you never really know the depth of the emotions that a heroine goes through."
Well, we would now know once 'Heroine' hits the screens this Friday.
