Phoolon Ka Taaron Ka Sabka Kehna Hai; Ek Hazaro Mein Meri Behna Hai...
Bhaiya Mere Rakhi Ke Bandhan Ko Nibhana...
Those were the days when there were songs for every situation, every relationship, every emotion and for what not... Woh bhi kya din they...
Can we see those bhai-behen songs in contemporary films? Forget siblings, it’s been quite some time that we even heard songs on maa or pithaaji... (Yeah, we almost had a close brush with film ‘Taare Zameen Par’ or ‘Mere Dad Ki Maruti’). Mostly, today’s movies are either centred around friends, youngsters, lovers (topping the list)... or about terrorists, underworld dons, corruption, biopics (the current hot pick of filmmakers), professionals (read Dabangg, Singham), horror, thrillers... Anything which are simply out of the box (read Vicky Donor)... Where are those musical filmy sentiments and emotional bonds gone from our cinema? What kind of songs will our future generation sing, when it comes to singing situational numbers - for instance, songs of brothers, sisters, mother, father...? (Oh yeah, remixed version of the old ones, of course!)

Hmmm, coming back to the sibling relationship.. Brothers-sisters, in real or on reel, are home friends - those close ones who are buddies within your relations. Gone are the days when sisters used to wait for brothers to tie rakhis... or those times when brother used to fight all odds, simply to come to sister’s house to bless her on Raksha Bandhan..
The last sentimental types were Hrithik Roshan and Karishma Kapoor in ‘Fiza’.. Now is the age of Hello Brother! These days, brothers and sisters are like Prateik and Genelia in ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ - Tom and Jerry who fight their hair off but are deeply connected. They are like Tusshar Kapoor and Kareena in ‘Golmaal Returns’... Like Abhishek Bachchan and Asin in ‘Bol Bachchan’ who were siblings in crime (read doing Bol Bachchan). But one who takes away the cake is the bhai-behen jodi of Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in ‘Josh’. They play the typical brother- sister of contemporary times.
So on that note, we wish you all a Happy Raksha Bandhan!
