Now after two weeks of ‘Endhiran’ strangle, space is slowly being created for others to come in. But the trade is not upbeat as no significant film is releasing this Friday. ‘Boss Engira Baskaran’ revived its life and no breakthrough otherwise for anybody.

This Friday will see seven straight Tamil films and one dubbed film. Thottupaar, Thanga Pambu, Gauravargal, Naane Ennul Illai, Ochayee, Aarvam and Vaada are Tamil and Speed Returns is dubbed.

Here is a peek at the films releasing this Friday:

1. Cine Screens Presentation 'Gauravargal' is an emotional tale of friendship and relations. Sathyaraj, Yuvarani, Vignesh, Monica, newcomers Vijay Raj and Sougandhi play the major roles in the film. Sathyaraj plays an elderly character Thondaiman and Yuvarani plays his wife.

Director Sanjay Ram says this will be more emotional than his previous films ‘Aadu Puli Aattam’ and ‘Veeramum Eeramum’ he says. Music is by Dheena.

While the star cast is recognisable this film has not created any sort of expectations and may live up only to that. Sathyaraj’s performance may be the saving grace.

2. Aachi Kizhavi Thiraikoodam ‘Ochayee’ is a kind of an experimental film with rank new comers. The only familiar face in the film is Ganja Karuppu. The film is about family feud and following sentiments drama in village temperaments.

New comer Thamarai plays the title role. The film is a small film but has grabbed the attention of veterans in the industry. All the elders of the industry who spoke at the audio launch said ‘Ochayee’ is a very watchable film.

Director Asaithambi puts his hopes on serious cinema viewers to get his place in the industry. Worth a try we guess.

3. Tholl Paavai Theatres production ‘Thottupaar’ seems to be an interesting action commercial film. A young guy living in the village gets involved in a crime and escapes to the city. But the after effects of his crime follows him to the city is the essence of ‘Thottupaar’.

All happens in the film because of an all important ‘ration-card’. Director Nandu says people will be surprised to know what all can be done with their ration card. The climax of the film is also a talking point of the film before release,

Vidharth and Lakshana play the young lead and actor Ramana plays a baddie in the avatar of a transgender. Anu Haasan and VMC Haneefa take other prominent characters.

4. ‘Thanga Pambu’ is a film which claims to reveal the secrets of the Red Sand Boa, popularly known as mannuli paambu in Tamil. The species was in news as people illegally hunted them for its supposed medicinal properties. All new comers and with no mainstream publicity this film has to struggle to get noticed.

5. ‘Naane Ennul Illai’, Yesteryears actress Jayachithra is introducing her son Amresh Ganesh in ‘Naane Ennul Illai’. As a dotting mother Jayachithra had made her son do everything. Repeat everything. The film is said to be a breezing romantic family entertainer.

Amresh Ganesh and Arya Menon play the young lovers. Television actor Raghav is the villain. Jayachitra has scripted and directed the movie only to launch his son. Amresh Ganesh is also the music director of the film.

6. ‘Aarvam’ Movie Dream Makers who produced the film Padagasalai is now producing the film ‘Aarvam’. It is a suspense thriller based on a real incident that is said to have happened in Madurai some five years ago.

Sathya and R Sanjay who did the hero roles in Padagasalai are also doing the lead roles in this also. Meenu Karthika is the heroine. Ganga Karuppu, Vadivukarasi, Ponnambalam and Karate Raja are also in the cast. Director of the film is Adityan.

7. Vaada is a much delayed action flick starring Sundar C and Shreyil Brindo. The film was nudging for space from April onwards and finally releasing in October. It’s an out-and-out action masala revenge drama directed by Venkatesh.

Shreyil plays a passionate fan of MGR. Kushboo appears in a small role for a song. Vivek plays the comedian in the get up of legendary actor Suruli Rajan. That must be interesting.

8. ‘Speed Returns’, The only dubbed movie of this week is ‘Speed Returns’ dubbed from the 2009 American action film 12 Rounds. It is directed by Renny Harlin of movies like Born American, A Nightmare on Elm Street 4, Die Hard 2 and Cliffhanger.

The movie is about a detective Danny Fisher who is taunting by a criminal mastermind with a series of near-impossible puzzles and tasks... 12 rounds... that Danny must somehow complete to save the life of his fiancée .

Professional wrestler John Cena plays the detective hero. It has action, adventure, mystery and Suspense. Must be an interesting film for the genre lovers.

Though the flow of releases is big they are small films that have not aroused the enthusiasm of anybody. The theatres available to these small films are also not prime ones. A lot of thinking by the decision makers of various film bodies is waiting.
