The closing stage of the year is hastening up many releases so that they can escape the early festive months of next year. With a couple of big films  ÂManmadhan Ambu and ÂKavalan  waiting to party before 2011 begins, this week is the only last breathing space left.
To make the best out of this available week five straight films are reaching the theatres. Interestingly all the films releasing this Friday are much delayed releases. K, BhagyarajÂs Siddu, VijayakanthÂs ÂVirudhagiriÂ, ShaamÂs ÂAgam Puram, AadhiÂs ÂAyyanaar and SPS MediaÂs ÂSanikizhamai Sayangalam 5 Mani are relieved lot now.
Siddu (Plus Two 1st attempt) is a youthful romantic film written and directed by K. Bhagyaraj. It stars his son Santhanu and newcomer Chandni Tamilarasan in the main leads. ÂVirudhagiri is the maiden directorial venture of Captain Vijayakanth. It is a super cop story which is a very familiar terrain for Vijayakanth.
The movie is said to be a greatly localized version of the Liam Neeson starrer film ÂTaken with traces of the French film ÂWasabiÂ. The Captain has written the story and screenplay as well apart from directing and acting. He movie's title is inspired by the presiding deity Virudhagireeswarar at Vriddhachalam, the Assembly constituency Vijayakanth represents.
Now that he is also political leader the film will have a heavy dose of political punch dialogues. ÂVirudhagiri was shot extensively at Malaysia, Hong Kong, Bangkok and neighboring countries.
ÂAgam Puram is a stylish action thriller starring the handsome Shaam and warm Meenakshi in main roles. The film is about a young boy from the village who comes to the city in search of a living but involuntarily becomes part of an underworld gang. When he grows he leads a clandestine life of a rich business man who is into smuggling as well.
Though the story sounds familiar sources say the making of the film is classy and chic with good twists in the tale. Large part of the film was shot in Malaysia.
The romantic Shaam is turning a macho hero in ÂAgam Puram which has Meenakshi, Meera Krishnan, Ananthraj, Sambath and others. It is written, produced and directed by Thirumalai. Some good songs are provided by Sundar C Babu.
ÂAyyanaar film is largely set in a village, but travels to the city also. Santhanam has done the comedy spoofing Osama Bin Laden. Music is by the young talented S.Thaman for the lyrics of Na. Muthukumar, Thamarai and Vivega.
