The first Friday of 2011 is for dubbed films as there are six dubbed films and just one small straight Tamil film is releasing on January 7.
The only Tamil film Thamizh Desam was also been one waiting very long to see the light of the day. The six dubbed films are Kadhal Galatta, Maya Valai, Maharaniyum Manmadha Rajavum, Kahajuraho Ilavarasi, Blade of the Rose and Warrior.
Thamizh Desam is a social film talking about one of the most critical issues facing mankind. It asks a very fundamental question, "If we go on wiping out agriculture where to we go for our food tomorrow? It talks about how the rapid globalization is destroying the land and its people in the guise of progress.
Thamizh Desam stars Raghuvannan (son of director Manivannan), Varshini aka Aadhira and others. It is directed by Thamizh Selva.
Maya Valai is dubbed from Telugu film Swetha 5/10 Wellington Road. Some call it is a bilingual. The film stars Keerthi Chawla, Girish and Shiv in the lead roles and directed by Sanjay. The story is about a young girl who accidentally enters a house she was not familiar with and how she deals with the bizarre situations there. Keerthi Chawla scorches the screen with some scintillating glamour.
Kadhal Galatta is dubbed from the Hindi film Impatient Vivek. Starring Vivek Sudarshan and Sayali Bhagat it is a romantic comedy about a simple boy who tries to woo a beautiful girl and the hilarious events happening on course. Director is Rahat Kazmi.
Maharaniyum Manmadha Rajavum is dubbed from the 2002 French film Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra. It stars Monica Bellucci as Cleopatra. It borders adult comedy.
Warrior is dubbed from the action fantasy film The Warriors Way. A warrior-assassin is forced to hide in a small town in the American Badlands after refusing a mission is the story. The film stars South Korean actor Jang Dong-Gun. It is produced by Lord of the Rings producer Barrie Osborne.
Blade of the Rose is another action hoping to get some audience for Jackie Chan and his son Jaycee Chan. It is an action adventure combining romance, fantasy, comedy and cutting edge Hong Kong style martial artistry. In the run there is also one murky Kahajuraho Ilavarasi dubbed from a seedy Hindi film.
When talking about the flurry of dubbed films entering Kollywood, we have no clue as to what these producers are expecting out of these films. With six dubbed films released on a single day we dont understand why producers are lamenting that there arent enough screens for Tamil films today. Who will answer this paradox?
