The World Cup Cricket fever has peaked and theatres in cities have started lamenting in public. As all the India playing matches are scheduled during the weekends only – either on a Saturday or Sunday, things may further worsen in the coming days.

Braving the odds this week are ‘Singam Puli’ and ‘Bhavani’. Two dubbed movies for the week are ‘Aayiram Poochikal’ and District 9.

‘Singam Puli’ has piped out ‘Ko’ to be a February release. ‘Singam Puli’ is an action film starring Jeeva in double roles for the first time. The plot of the film is said to be the fight between an innocent fisherman Jeeva and the suave layer Jeeva who create troubles for the former using the similar look.

Divya Spandana and Honey Rose are the heroines. Santhanam, Livingston, Ponvannan and Lakshmi Ramakrishnan also play important roles. ‘Singam Puli’ is written and directed by Sairamani who was trained under by likes of Suresh Krishna and then SP Jananathan.

Being a Jeeva film ‘Singam Puli’ will have its share of entertainment. Promise.

‘Bhavani’ is a long, very long pending film of Sneha who has taken an action avatar for. It is a remake of yester years hit ‘Vyjayanthi IPS’ which made Vijayashanthi, a lady super star among the masses.

In this remake Sneha replays Vijayashanthi as a female IPS officer who takes on political villains Kota Srinivasa Rao, Sampath and Manoj K. Jayan. This is a major shift from the popular image of Sneha that of a homely girl next door. Sneha has performed tough stunts in the film taking risks.

Vivek is there for the comedy. This film in its initial stages generated a lot of curiosity because of Sneha. But even after so much delay it may be worth a watch simply for Sneha.

In the dubbing section ‘Aayiram Poochikal’ is about a lazy dud who awakes to find himself weak and wrapped in a webbing. After realizing that the world has been taken over by giant alien insects, he wakes a ragtag group of strangers and together they fight for survival. ‘Aayiram Poochikal’ is dubbed from 2008 film ‘Infestation’. The genre is action adventure comedy.

District 9 is an adventure fantasy about an extraterrestrial race forced to live in slum-like conditions on Earth suddenly find a family spirit in a government agent that is exposed to their biotechnology.

Following few weeks are going to be even more insipid with no big films announcing their arrival. Prakash Raj’s Malayalam dubbed ‘Anwar’ and a few new comers’ movies are expected next week.
