In the wake of the suspected terror attack in France where an attacker beheaded a woman and killed two others outside a church in Nice, the former prime minister of Malaysia, Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, said that Muslims have "a right to be angry and kill millions of French people."
Three people, including a woman, were killed outside a church in the southern French city, even as the nation was still reeling from the beheading of a French teacher, Samuel Paty, who showed a caricature of Prophet Muhammad in a classroom. Criticizing French President Emmanuel Macron by calling him "primitive," former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad wrote in a series of tweets, "Macron is not showing that he is civilised. He is very primitive in blaming the religion of Islam and Muslims for the killing of the insulting school teacher. It is not in keeping with the teachings of Islam. But irrespective of the religion professed, angry people kill." In a now deleted tweet, the former PM had mentioned that Muslims have a right to be angry and kill millions of French people. "The French in the course of their history has killed millions of people. Many were Muslims. Muslims have a right to be angry and to kill millions of French people for the massacres of the past," Mohamad's tweet read.
He further added, "But by and large the Muslims have not applied the "eye for an eye" law. Muslims don't. The French shouldn't. Instead the French should teach their people to respect other people's feelings. Since you have blamed all Muslims and the Muslims' religion for what was done by one angry person, the Muslims have a right to punish the French. The boycott cannot compensate the wrongs committed by the French all these years."
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condemned the barbaric attacks in Nice and asserted that India stands with France in the fight against terrorism. "I strongly condemn the recent terrorist attacks in France, including today's heinous attack in Nice inside a church. Our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the people of France. India stands with France in the fight against terrorism," PM Modi's tweet read.
