The historic Maha Kumbh Mela, which occurs once every 144 years, is currently underway in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, former Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni, who has also appeared in a few Telugu films, has turned into a “Sadhvi” at this historic religious gathering. Mamta was one of the top heroines in Bollywood in the 1990s. She has acted in many hit films like Karan Arjun, Sabse Bada Khiladi, China Gate and Baazi.
In Telugu, she acted in two films, Prema Shikaram and Donga Police. She has been inactive in films since 2003. Yesterday, she became Mahamandaleshwar of the Kinnar Akhara. Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Swami Laxmi Narayan Tripathi of Kinnar Akhara, Jagatguru Gargacharya Muchkund Pithadhishwar Swami Mahendranand Giri Maharaj of Juna Akhara and Mahamandleshwar Swami Jai Ambanand Giri Maharaj blessed and gave Mamata Kulkarni the new name, Shri Yamai Mamta Nand Giri.
Reportedly, Mamta Kulkarni visited Kinnar Akhara’s camp on Friday and discussed various details of Santana Dharma and Sanyas with Laxmi Narayan Tripathi. Then, the acharyas at the camp performed a diksha ceremony and completed the ‘pind dhaan’ rituals.
Later, they did ‘Pattabhishekam’ for Mamta, officially turning her tino a Sadhvi. Mamta revealed that she initiated her sanyas practice at the Kapoli Ashram 23 years ago and added that she is fully embracing it now.
