Former President Pranab Mukherjee passes away at 84

Former President and Bharat Ratna recipient Pranab Mukherjee is no more. The news was on Monday evening revealed by his son, Abhijit Mukherjee. The 84-year-old dignitary's condition deteriorated after he suffered a septic shock due to a lung infection. He was in a comatose state and was on life support.
"With a heavy heart, this is to inform you that my father Shri #PranabMukherjee has just passed away in spite of the best efforts of doctors of RR Hospital and prayers, duas and prarthanas from the people throughout India! I thank all of you," the son, a Congress party leader, wrote.
Rich condolences are pouring in from across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted a pic of him touching the former Prez's feet and wrote, "India grieves the passing away of Bharat Ratna Shri Pranab Mukherjee. He has left an indelible mark on the development trajectory of our nation. A scholar par excellence, a towering statesman, he was admired across the political spectrum and by all sections of society."
Vice-President of India Venkaiah Naidu tweeted, "Deeply saddened by the passing away of former President, Shri Pranab Mukherjee. The country has lost an elder statesman in his death. He rose from humble beginnings to occupy the country’s highest constitutional position through hard work, discipline and dedication."
Former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted, "End of an era. Pranab Mukherjee was a statesman, most experienced policymaker, an encyclopaedia on global and all national issues, a seasoned parliamentarian, above all, an excellent human. His demise creates a huge void. I remember his encouragement to me at all times. We all will miss him. OM SHANTI (sic)."
