Former Indian cricketer arrested for drunk driving: Details

Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli was arrested by Bandra police in Mumbai on Sunday for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and also causing an accident by ramming his car into another vehicle.

As per a report, Kambli hit the parked car of Tajaswini Powar, who happens to be the wife of another former Indian cricketer, Ramesh Powar. The woman’s car was located inside his residential building at Jewel apartment near Bandra reclamation. Kambli then rammed his car into the compound wall of the building. He was caught by the police who were stationed nearby. They immediately took him to the Bandra police station, where it was determined that he had been driving drunk. As per an official, Vinod Kambli has been charged under sections 279 (rash driving), 336 (endangering life or personal safety of others) and 427 (mischief causing damage) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Deputy Commissioner of police Manjunath Singhe was quoted as saying, “He was driving his car in a drunken state. He has been arrested and further investigation is being done by Bandra police station.” Kambli was subsequently released on bail.
