Those who know cricketing history are aware of the origin of the term 'Mankading'. Legendary Indian cricketer Vinoo Mankad was the first one to pull off such a run-out in 1947. Mankad was shamed for not respecting the spirit of cricket. But Don Bradman, the Australian legend, supported Mankad.

This week, after the India Vs England match, the term 'Mankading' has once again been used widely, especially by Westerners. The family of Vinoo Mankad has been saddened by the insulting reference in the past. Criticizing the use of the term, wrote cricket analyst Aakash Chopra, "Vinoo Mankad is a legend. He has a very respected place in cricket. This is called ‘run-out’ and has been called that for a while as far as the MCC Laws of Cricket is concerned."
