A former assistant professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M), who resigned from the institute last month after alleging caste discrimination, has now filed a fresh complaint with the OBC Commission in New Delhi regarding the issue.

According to a report by a news agency, the assistant professor, identified as Vipin P Veetil wrote to the OBC Commission in a 2-page letter, "This letter does not capture all of the discrimination I have faced at the department or the caste dynamics which regulates and shapes our lives at the institute. These will hopefully come up in the course of our interaction during the investigation." The professor has also applied to return to IIT withdrawing his resignation. "It's within the in lien period of one year (to withdraw resignation) so I've expressed interest to (re)join," he had said.

Claiming that he had faced multiple instances of discrimination, Professor Vipin had earlier asked the authorities of IIT Madras to set up a committee with members of the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) commission, OBC commission and psychologists to look into the experiences of SC and OBC faculty members of the institute. His e-mail read, "The discrimination came from individuals in position of power irrespective of their claimed political affiliations and gender. There were multiple specific instances of discrimination and I shall be pursuing appropriate actions to address the matter."
