Former Indian cricketer VB Chandrasekhar, who played first-class international cricket in the late 1980s, is no more. He committed suicide at his Chennai home on Thursday night, leaving his wife and two daughters bereaved.
As per early reports, the 57-year-old former sportsman had been depressed over the financial losses suffered by his cricket league team, VB Kanchi Veerans. A cricket coaching centre he was running has also been in losses.
He borrowed from a bank by mortgaging his fixed assets to invest Rs 3 Cr in the Kanchi Veerans TNPL team. He couldn't clear off the debts or pay the interest. A bank notice devastated him.
The cricketing fraternity is shocked to the core. Suresh Raina said, "Extremely sad and shocked to hear about the passing away of VB Chandrasekhar sir. His consistent efforts made it possible to set the right foundation of the CSK team. He always encouraged & believed in us since the very beginning." Joy Bhattacharjya said, "Devastated to hear that VB Chandrasekhar has passed away. I remember him in the first-ever IPL auction in 2008, raising the paddle to the unheard sum of $1.5 million dollars to bring MS Dhoni to CSK. He will be missed."
