Sugary drinks: –
As tempting an option a sugary soda might sound during the summer, the drink virtually contains no essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, or fiber. All it will ever provide you with is added calories, leading to weight gain. The fructose present in the drinks is particularly associated with an increase in fat around the belly, known as visceral fat, which will put you in an increased risk of type 2 diabetes and other heart diseases.
Red meat/Grilled meat: –
Mutton, Lamb, Pork and other red meat are usually known to increase the body temperature after consumption. They are also rich in saturated fat, which leads to an increase in blood cholesterol, raising your risk of heart diseases. And grilled meat, when cooked at high temperatures during the summer heat, might add to the carcinogen quality of the meat, leading to an increased risk of cancer.
Spicy food: –
Although it might be practically impossible to avoid spicy food in India, the intake of it should be reduced during summer, as almost every known spice (including pepper, cumin, cinnamon, chillies, ginger, mustard, and nutmeg) leads to an increase in body heat. This will lead to an increased rate of metabolism, which would nullify the cooling effect of anything else you might eat or drink.
Mangoes: –
This might come across as a surprise as the seasonal fruit is known to be a popular favourite, especially during summer, although the fact remains that mangoes increase the body heat, excessive consumption of which will lead to undesirable effects in the body. Although a mango or two now and then might act as a palate cleanser, consumption of more than two might cause diarrhea and an upset stomach.
Dairy products: –
It is well-known that milk, cream, paneer, cheese, butter, and other dairy products contain high quantities of fat. This, especially during summer, can lead to indigestion and other gastric problems. Also, milk products usually need to be stored in places with low temperatures. Improper storage of the same might cause an upset stomach when consumed.
Fried food: –
Even though it is wise to avoid fried food at all times, it is especially better to avoid them during the summer, as the chances of indigestion and food poisoning are higher than in winter. They are also known to escalate the body heat and lower the immunity. The excess oil in fried food can also cause acne in people with oily skin texture. In case there is a craving for fries, baking them is a much healthier option.
Dry fruits/Nuts: –
Dry fruits such as dates, raisins, and apricots are usually good for the body, as they are rich in powerful nutrients. However, you might have to reduce the intake of them during summer as they are known to generate a lot of heat in the body. Dry fruits also take much longer to digest, making them preferable for winters. Fresh fruits are ideal for summer.
