The food delivery industry, led by big market players such as Zomato, Swiggy and Food Panda, was feared to crash because of Covid-19. Fortunately for the stakeholders in the industry, its sales are back in a big way.
Bloomberg has quoted Zomato as saying that the industry is back to 85% of the pre-COVID level of sales. Delhi and Mumbai have seen a better improvement compared to the national average. Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai are below the national average.
The report has very good news about cities such as Kolkata, Patna, Ranchi and Jamshedpur, where food delivery sales are more than what was the case before the coronavirus struck the country.
The numbers bode well for the beleaguered restaurant industry. With most of the customers avoiding dining in restaurants, they are opting for the relatively safe option of ordering online.
