Florida authorities have identified the deceased woman whose body was discovered in the mouth of an alligator. The incident occurred in Largo, situated in the Tampa Bay region, prompting a response from authorities at approximately 1:50 p.m. on Friday.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the victim's identity as Sabrina Peckham, aged 41, on Saturday.
A witness, JaMarcus Bullard, recounted to the News outlets that he had previously observed an alligator carrying a body in its mouth. "I could tell there was a body in his mouth, so I started recording," Bullard said.
The 13-foot, 8.5-inch male alligator was humanely euthanized by officials, as reported by the sheriff’s office and the Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission. Although alligators have been sighted in the area on previous occasions, resident Jennifer Dean informed News Outlet that she had never encountered one of such substantial size.
"A lot of my neighbors were out here, and they're the ones that told me about the gator," Dean stated. "While we were standing here, we heard a shot. I assume they killed the gator."
