'Khaleja' was a damp squib when it released in theatres. On TV, it has been one of the most-watched ones. 'Athadu' and 'Manmadhudu' did average at the box-office. On TV, they have been classics. Is something similar happening with Shah Rukh Khan's 'Zero'? Yes, if the numbers are anything to go by.
As per BARC numbers, the disastrous Bollywood movie has earned 9.2 million impressions when it was aired by a General Entertainment Channel a few weeks ago. For perspective, this is bigger than what the monstrous hits 'Sanju' and 'Padmaavat' have pulled off on TV.
SRK's superstardom has worked on TV. Also, the right marketing strategy was of help. "The producers re-edited the product for TV to make it sharper. The fun movie was presented to the aspirational Indian audience as a film about a mission to Mars. These have created a huge element of interest around 'Zero'," a report mentions.
