Fitoor Review
Story - 'Fitoor' is a story (based on Charles Dickens thirteenth novel 'Great Expectations') of a Kashmiri boy Noor (Aditya Roy Kapur) who falls in love with a rich girl Firdaus (Katrina Kaif). Firdaus’s mother Begum (Tabu), wants Noor to become a rich and successful person. Noor grows up with his unique talent for art and painting and meets Firdaus after a long gap, in Delhi. Firdaus is engaged to Bilal (Rahul Bhat), but still has feelings for Noor. This leads to a series of events portraying the struggle and hardship in Noor and Firdaus's life.
Positivie Points - Music by Amit Trivedi is good and songs like 'Pashmina' (only used in background) and 'Yeh Fitoor Mera' works in the favour of the film. But it's the cinematography by AnayGoswamywhich is the biggest high point of this film. The movie is treat in terms of its looks and visual presentation. The scenes, locations, set-up, backdrop, costumes, sets are stunning and leaves you spell bound due to its fine detailing. Also performance by Tabu is fantastic as she does her part with total grace. Aditi Rao Hydari looks exact replica of Tabu and excels in her scenes. Kudos to the casting director for selecting the younger versions of Aditya and Katrina.Aditya Roy Kapur looks great and is a visual treat for his female fans, thanks to his shirtless scenes.Katrina Kaif looks stunning and gorgeous. Her style, screen presence, hair style, etc is of top notch and one fails to take away their eyes from this lead pair.
Negative Points - There are cinematic liberties taken as far as the story is concerned. The movie starts on a slow note and keeps moving on a snail pace. There is hardly any moment in terms of screenplay in the first half followed by a boring, confusing, half-baked and pseudo intelligent second half. The whole soul and purpose of the film is missing. The characters looks like beautiful mannequin without any life in them. Aditya Roy Kapur’s character suffers the most due to half-baked script. Rahul Bhatt overacts. Akshay Oberoi, Lara Dutta, Talat Aziz and Ajay Devgn are wasted.Director Abhishek Kapoor fails to do justice to this film like he did in case of 'Kai Po Che', which was a brilliant adaptation of a weak novel.
Two Line Review - 'Fitoor' is stunningly in terms of its grandeur and cinematography. But based on boring storytelling and weak screenplay, the movie ends up as miracle which cures insomnia.
