Lakshmi Narayana, the Vizag MP candidate of Jana Sena, has tried to endear himself to the fisherfolk community by saying that the city was saved by fishermen way back in 1971.
"During the Indo-Pak war, Pakistan had planned to blast Vizag through its submarine Ghazi. Due to repair works, the submarine couldn't reach the shores in time. Coincidentally, some fishermen from the city travelled into the sea to catch fish. They heard strange sounds made by the submarine and narrated the incident to the Navy men. This is how the Navy suspected that Pak was launching an attack and started an operation to bust the submarine," Lakshmi Narayana, who goes by the initials JD, said.
It may be recalled that, in 2017, Rana Daggubati starred in a film based on the Ghazi attack. Directed by Sankalp Reddy, it took creative liberties and didn't include incidents like the above.
