In the Miss Universe final pageant held today, Miss Spain Angela Ponce was the first transgender contestant in history to run for the coveted crown.
"I am competing for Miss Universe crown because it's what I have wanted to do since I was a kid," the famous contestant said. She added that she wanted to show it to the trans women out there that they can be whatever they want to be in life. Her aim is to eradicate intolerance and promote the idea of equality for all.
She couldn't make it to the top 20 contestant list, but the inspiring trans woman has stood as an example of determination.
Catriona Gray of the Philippines has won the competition, trumping competitors from 93 countries.
