Producer CV Kumar had once been known as the man behind small budget quality entertainers like Pizza, Soodhu Kavvum, Attakathi etc with his banner Thirukumaran Entertainments. In 2017, the producer went on to don the director's hat for the first time, with a fantasy thriller with a unique concept, Maayavan.

Starring Tollywood hero Sundeep Kishan and Lavanya Tripathi in lead roles, Maayavan had an exciting plot, and the movie also starred powerful performers Daniel Balaji and Jackie Shroff in vital roles. However, despite much promise, the movie met with mixed responses and did not fare well at the box office.

However, now CV Kumar is back with his next directorial. Titled Gangs of Madras, the movie is touted to be a raw, gritty thriller revolving around the life of gangsters in Chennai, and stars Daniel Balaji and Aadukalam Naren in prime roles.
