The controversial and much debated AIB Roast show held on January 20 in Mumbai, which became an instant hit after it was put on You Tube thanks to its bizarre, rude, crude and obnoxious comedy has landed in soup.
According to reports a social activist, Santosh Daundkar has filed a First Information Report (FIR) against it organizers and the film celebrities for its blatant vulgarity and ribald content. The show has been charged under stern offences like speaking vulgar, obscene and pornographic words publicly before a women audience and circulation of obscene, pornographic content on the internet
The 14 persons charged in the FIR include Karan Johar, actor Ranvir Singh, Arjun Kapoor, actresses Deepika Padukone, and Alia Bhatt. In addition Jayantilal Shah, president of the National Sports Club of India (NSCI), Ravinder Aggarwal, secretary general of NSCI, organisers of AIB Roast programme, film critic Rajeev Masand, and popular stand up comedians like Rohan Joshi, Tanmay Bhatt, Gursimran Khamba, Ashish Shakya, and Aditi Mittal.
The complaint was filed after the police failed to take cognizance of a written complaint submitted to the Tardeo Police Station.
It may be noted that the show was held at Sardar Ballabhbhai Patel Stadium at Haji Ali in Worli and people attended the houseful show paying Rs 4000/- per person. Later an edited version of the show was uploaded on the YouTube, which received over three million hits after it went viral on the internet.
Defending its side the AIB Roast has filed an intervention plea opposing the petition, and arguing that the show was a humorous show for a private audience, and the private audience did not find the content offensive.
Lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani, who appeared on behalf of AIB, told the court, "The language was excessive, but within the bounds of humour."
The next hearing has been scheduled for March 3.? Meanwhile the Mumbai Police have already begun a probe against filmmaker Karan Johar, actor Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, regarding the "filthy and abusive language" in the comedy show.
