Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan's famous show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' triggered a controversy after a question on the show regarding Dr. BR Ambedkar sparked outrage on social media. An FIR has been registered against Amitabh Bachchan for apparently 'hurting Hindu sentiments.'
When Actor Anup Soni and social activist Bezwada Wilson appeared on KBC as guest contestants, the duo was faced with a question regarding the Hindu text Manusmriti for prize money of Rs. 6,40,000. The question and options were,
Q: On 25 December 1927, Dr BR Ambedkar and his followers burned copies of which scripture?
Options: (A) Vishnu Purana, (B) Bhagavad Gita, (C) Rigdev, (D) Manusmriti
The correct answer was (D) Manusmriti and the guests got it right. Later, Amitabh Bachchan mentioned in Hindi that In 1927, Dr BR Ambedkar condemned the ancient Hindu text Manusmriti and also burned copies of it. Ambedkar condemned the ancient Hindu text Manusmriti to ideologically justify caste discrimination and untouchability and burned its copies, the actor said, as quoted in a report. The question and the host's explanation did not go down well with a group of people, who criticized the actor for 'hurting Hindu sentiments.' Abhimanyu Pawar, BJP legislator from Ausa in Latur district, registered a complaint against Amitabh Bachchan and Sony Entertainment Television for the question posed during the special episode. Sharing a copy of his two-page complaint, the BJP legislator wrote on Twitter, There was an attempt to insult Hindus and create discord between Hindus and Buddhists who have been living in harmony.
Pawar further added, All the four options pertained to Hindu religion. It is clear that the motive behind this question was to hurt the sentiments of Hindus. This question spreads the message that Hindu religious scriptures are meant for burning and triggers enmity between Hindus and followers of Buddhism.
