On Thursday, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman implied that no country in the world is administering vaccines to children. She was responding to criticism on India not launching the vaccination of children by sharing a PIB press release, which had statements from the NITI Ayog.
Taking to Twitter, she wrote, "As of now, no country in the world is giving vaccines to children. World Health Organization has no recommendation on vaccinating children. Trials on children in India are going to begin soon. The decision is to be taken by scientists after data is available based on trials."
The truth, as pointed out by a number of Netizens and journalists, is that vaccination of children is on in the US, among other countries.
Sitharaman also touched upon the Centre allotting vaccines to the States as per agreed guidelines. She said that States are being informed in advance of the vaccine availability.
States are getting 25% of the doses and private hospitals are getting 25% doses from sources other than the Centre, she updated.
The Modi government, Sitharaman added, is funding vaccine manufacturers, and giving them quick approvals to help them ramp up production. India is also bringing foreign vaccines to India.
