Dileep who has been lodged at the Aluva jail since July 10, will have his fifth bail application heard before the Kerala High Court on September 26, two days before the release of his much anticipated movie- Ramaleela. While a 'Boycott Ramaleela' campaign is going viral on social media, forcing the producer to seek judicial protection, there is another section including celebrities feel that the movie must be watched, without allowing the criminal charges against Dileep to spoil the lives of hundreds of men and respect their labour and creativity that have gone into the making of the movie. Joining the list of celebrities who are supporting Ramaleela, actress Manju Warrier, ex wife of Dileep, has openly declared her stand on the movie’s release.
While announcing the release date of her movie 'Udhaharanam Sujatha', which is releasing alongside Ramaleela, Manju warrier extended her support for the Dileep starrer.
“Ramleela is releasing along with ‘Udaharanam Sujatha’, I saw a call for boycotting Ramleela and some even said that the theaters should be burned. I feel such a stand is unfortunate. We shouldn't show our personal liking or dislike to movie. A film is not of just one person, it's of many people. A lot of families depend film industry, it’s an industry which give daily bread and butter, education and medicines to a lot of families. If the films go away from the theaters we will not get people to invest in movies and the dreams of many families will be shattered. Ramleela is an investment of crores of rupees for producer Tomichan Mulakupadam. It’s also the movie of a debut director Arun Gopi, who has been dreaming about film for years. They all have the right to bring this movie to the theaters and wish that the people see it. We have no right to deny it. If we do that it is an injustice to cinema... time will not forgive us. Let people watch Ramleela ... let the justice of viewership dawn. (sic)” wrote Manju Warrier on her Facebook page.
With the arrest of Dileep for his involvement in plotting the abduction and sexual assault of a noted south Indian actress, Ramaleela’s release was indefinitely delayed. After a long struggle, the movie is all set to hit the big screens on September 28th. Directed by Arun Gopy, Ramaleela is a political thriller featuring Dileep and Prayaga Martin in the lead roles. Bankrolled by Pulimurugan fame Tommichan Mulakupadam, Ramaleela also has Radhika Sarathkumar and Renji Panicker in pivotal roles.
