Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has announced a much-deserved infrastructure zone for Andhra Pradesh in the form of a railway zone to be headquartered in Vizag. It will be known as Southern Coast Railway.
In a memorandum submitted by a BJP delegation last week to Goyal, the saffron party leaders said the north Andhra region (read Srikakulam,Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts) is very backward. They urged the Centre to grant a railway zone as an "impetus for development".
"The railway zone will comprise Guntakal, Guntur, Vijayawada divisions & part of Waltair division. Thank you CBN Garu, Andhra people, TDP leaders and workers. Years of hard work, protest & demanding our rights paid off," Ram Mohan Naidu, MP, said.
