It's Friday and yet another movie announcement from Ram Gopal Varma! Rai, one of his dream projects, will be made in four languages - Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil. CR Manohar will produce this story of a former underworld don.
Based on the saga of Muthappa Rai, a don-turned-entrepreneur, this film will have Vivek Oberoi playing the role of Rai. It was earlier planned to be made with Kannada star Sudeep of Eega fame.
RGV says that the film will be extensively shot in Mangalore, Banglore, Mumbai, Dubai and London. "Mutthappa Rai agreed to launch the first look upon my request on May 1, which is his birthday," he says.
Muthappa Rai's journey is laced with adventure and gore. He was shot in a court premises by a person clad in a lawyer's dress way back in 1994. He survived five bullets into his body and after two years of being bed-ridden, he reportedly developed contacts with Dawood Ibrahim and lived in exile. He is currently based in Bengaluru post his extradition in 2002 and is known as a businessman.
After doing a thorough research on him, RGV discovered that Muthappa is "the Bahubali of the Underworld."
