Vara Lakshmi, who is mostly seen in TV serials these days, was once a much sought-after artiste in Tollywood. She was known for playing the sister to male leads in the 1980s. When she was cast as Chiranjeevi's sister in 'Goonda', Vara Lakshmi turned very popular for similar roles. So much so, many would address her as 'Sister Vara Lakshmi' in the industry.

In a recent interview, the veteran actress has revealed that a fight master was very rude towards her twice. "During the making of a film starring Krishna garu, villain Noothan Prasad asks his men to tonsure my head because my character loves his son. The baddies pour water onto my head. But after this, I am hit on my head with the metal vase! This was done for real. It pained me a lot. On another occasion, the director asked the baddie to drag me down from steps by my feet. He dragged me down 20-25 steps, not 2 steps as was asked of him!" Vara Lakshmi said.

"Where was the need to inconvenience me like this? I may not have a great background, but does that mean anything goes? He later told me sorry," she added.
