Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has stated that he didn’t feel elated or happy at seeing the corpse of former Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) chief Velupillai Prabhakaran (who had masterminded the assassination of Rahul’s father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi). “In fact, we only felt disappointed and even felt guilty at the brutal murder,” Rahul Gandhi has said, creating excitement in Congress circles.
Rahul is on a whirlwind tour of Gujarat which is to soon vote to elect a new Legislative Assembly. After holding consultations with industrialists in Vadodara, he addressed newsmen and said that the BJP-led Centre was responsible in answering queries of people who have been hugely disappointed by the unfulfilled pre-poll promises of the BJP made prior to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
“Politicians are usually not frank but I’m not so. I speak out my mind. Though Prabhakaran masterminded my father’s assassination, I only felt disappointed and in fact guilty to some extent when I saw the corpse of Prabhakaran who was killed a few years back by Lankan security forces. I got in touch with my sister Priyanka soon after and she too shared the same feeling about Prabhakaran.
“In fact, me and Priyanka’s lives were in a manner similar to the life of the slain last son of Prabhakaran. We grew up in agony by the absence of our father. We were brought up in a cultured manner that we didn’t feel elated or happy at seeing the corpse of our father’s assassin. Even if somebody billed as fools or buffoons, we don’t bother; this is our culture and the way we were brought up,” Rahul concluded.
