A post on Facebook helped Vayalpidiyil Mohammad reunite with his family after 37 years. Mohammad was last seen in Madavoor in 1982. His family searched for him in several places but he was not to be found. His wife was then pregnant with their youngest child.
Over the years, Mohammad’s children, one son, and two daughters, got married. Now even his grandchildren are married. But he was not there to enjoy any of these special days. Recently a bakery owner Rayeez from Pattambi, helped Mohammad, by narrating his story on Facebook. He had to be persuaded to even consider the that reuniting with his family was possible. Rayeez’s friend seeing his post, contacted Saleem Madavoor, the president of the Loktantrik Yuva Janata Dal, who tracked down his family.
Saleem took Mohammad to his family in Belagavi. He was unsure about reuniting with his family after so many years. His brother’s and children’s insistence made him agree. The family is now restarting their life with Mohammad after 37 years. In this period, he even mastered 9 languages.
The incident makes one ponder about how social media when used appropriately, can be beneficial in helping many.
