Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales said that social media websites can help stop the spread of fake news and said that Facebook should add a feature by which users can see news that they might usually like. He felt that this would help break the echo chamber, a phenomenon where users only see views that they already agree with.
Speaking at a panel at the Viva Technology conference in Paris, France, Wales said that by showing “thinkers, politicians, news, that’s going to challenge,” social media websites can “enrich their users’ lives”. He felt that the posts that we see should be thought provoking, at least once in a while.
