A 15-year-old girl was brutally attacked with a knife by her father and her brother after she refused to get married and insisted on studying further. The incident happened in the Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh.

The victim reportedly stated that her father took her to an isolated spot near a canal where he was joined by her brother and the two of them attempted to kill her. Her brother allegedly held a cloth around her neck while her father repeatedly stabbed her on the back in spite of her begging for mercy. The duo then threw the girl inside the canal assuming she was dead. “My father wanted to marry me off, I had rejected his proposal as I wanted to study. He stabbed and threw me in a canal,” the girl said in the statement. However, fortunately, she swam her way to the other end of the canal to reach the police station.

The victim is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital while the police have begun a formal investigation and are on the lookout for the father and son.
