In a controversial development, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah has attributed the Indo-China border issues to the annulment of Article 370 in August 2019.
Speaking to a national media channel, the National Conference leader, who was held in detention for months ahead of the removal of Article 370, said, "The abrogation of the Article is responsible for the Chinese aggression at the LAC in Ladakh."
He expressed the hope that the Article, which gave an indefinite privilege to J&K, will be restored with the support of the enemy country.
The remarks have led to a volley of criticisms against Abdullah. Author Shantanu Gupta wrote, "Farooq Abdullah telling himself that why he was and should be under detention." Several anti-Article 370 commentators described Abdullah's pro-China remarks as treason.
