The Rahul Mahajan drugs saga being relayed live on the zillion television channels and newspapers has had its toll on the five year long trial of Fardeen Khan for possession of Cocaine. A lower court has rejected a plea by the actor to amend a chargesheet filed against him for possessing drugs which would have reduced the quantity of drugs shown to be seized from him.

According to the Police, they had arrested Khan while he was purchasing cocaine from a peddler Nasir Abdul Karim in May 2001. The chargesheet stated that a total of nine grams of cocaine was seized from the two. Fardeen’s lawyer Ayaz Khan pleaded that the chargesheet ought to be more specific as merely one gram of cocaine was seized from the actor.

Under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotrophic Substances (NDPS), possession of one gram of cocaine attracts a jail term of six months, while possession of two grams or more attracts ten years of rigorous imprisonment. In the current situation Fardeen will face a trial for a non-commercial quantity of drug, which attracts a maximum of ten years in jail and Rs one lakh fine. The order comes as a setback as a criminal trial is inevitable.

Fardeen, currently, happens to be enjoying the best phase of his life after the huge success of No Entry and critical appreciation for his last film Pyaare Mohan. His marriage to yesteryear actress Mumtaz’ daughter Natasha has sobered him down completely. One can notice a marked change in him since his marriage. The playboy image has been taken over by a more domesticated approach to generalities. As far as his film career is concerned, then things are looking up as he is gearing up to play his father’s role in Qurbani. He has also been roped in along with Riteish Deshnukh for a comedy to be directed by E Niwas.
