The biggest album of the year so far, Fanaa' has hit the stands and is undoubtedly creating a lot of hype and curiosity. Unsurprisingly so as it comes from Yash Raj Films that has consistently given musical hits and one expects the same from this Aamir Khan-Kajol starer too. Jatin Lalit, who gave some delightfully simple tunes for Kunal Kohli's last 'Hum Tum' would be heard probably for the last time together in 'Fanaa'. Do they bow out with a bang? One expects so, especially when new age wizards Salim Sulaiman are at the helm as music programmers. Prasoon Joshi, who has always delivered youthful peotic beauties in his erstwhile efforts [most recently 'Rang De Basanti'], is back as the lyricist.
1) Chand Sifarish/Fanaa For You(Chand Sifarish Club Mix) [Shaan, Kailash Kher]
Kailash Kher's 'Deewani Deewani' is already making waves with the release of his album 'Kailasa'. Now he makes a rocking impression with just two words 'SUBHAN ALLAH'. The song begins with the sound of a whistle that is the base tune of 'Chanda Chamke', but more about that later. Shaan replaces Udit Narayan for a number that is easily tailor made for him but he makes the best use of the opportunity given to him as he sings the main song of 'Fanaa' featured on Aamir Khan. The track has Middle East undertones and is a decently paced melodious song. A sweet sounding track that is befitting for the musical score of Yash Raj Films, it is one of the most unique compositions of Jatin Lalit as they do something different by coming out of their comfort zone. When the song's club mix comes in the end as 'Fanaa For You', you just hear it in awe as DJ Aqeel does a marvelous job in changing the entire mood. He makes the number more hip'n'happening and make it suited for the disc and pub culture that gets the feet tapping.
2) Mere Haath Mein/Destroyed in Love [Instrumental Lounge Mix] [Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan, Aamir Khan, Kajol]
It's time to get romantic, Yash Chopra style, as Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan pair up to sing the lilting melody 'Mere Haath Mein'. A song that has all the necessary ingredients which Yash Chopra has liked for his love songs [smooth melody, meaningful lyrics, dreamy locations, snow peaked mountains and the works], 'Mere Haath Mein' is a lyrical gem by Prasoon Joshi where he talks about two loving souls getting 'fanaa' i.e. destroyed in love. Aamir Khan and Kajol make an appearance too but not in the capacity of singers as they mouth some sweet talk while expressing their love for each other. The melodious song promises that its tune would be heard at numerous instances as part of the film's background score. This appears to be true when its instrumental lounge mix [programmed by Dhrubajyoti Phukan] is heard after towards the album's end.
3) Des Rangila [Mahalaxmi Iyer]
Female voice heard as a part of the chorus at the song's beginning calls out strong and clear that 'Des Rangila' truly belongs to a Yash Raj film. Mahalaxmi Iyer's voice sounds like an ad campaign for the first few seconds but soon it takes an 'Indian-at-heart' angle as she croons to lyrics praising Indian heritage and culture. A situational number that seems to be placed in the album to establish Kajol's character, it has bits and pieces of Marathi, Gujrati and South Indian pieces of music as well while overall the song carries a strong northern flavor.
4) Dekho Na [Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan]
After 'Mere Haath Mein', its time for Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan to return with 'Dehko Na'. Yet another track that boasts of a sweet melodious outing, it a step ahead of 'Mere Haath Mein' and has a mesmerizing effect on a listener. Another notable factor about the song is that Jatin Lalit again shift from their style of music and come quite close to A.R.Rehman's brilliance in terms of the s
